As followers of Christ, we don’t always need to travel across borders to find souls in need of a Savior. More often than not, we don’t even need to step out of our houses to find a soul in need of our witness. And though this could come as a shocker, we don’t even need to leave our own beds to find a soul in need of the Gospel. That’s right, professing Christians need to hear the gospel just as much as unbelievers, if not more so. This is because many of us are simply strutting cloaks of empty religion.
I know all this because… I was the front-runner:
I put the hype in hypocrite,
I had the eloquence but not the Elohim,
I had the words but not the Word,
I had the art but not the heart,
Moved like the Spirit but wasn’t moved by the Spirit,
I praised God like Christians, but didn’t like Christians,
I preached & discussed fellowship but despised fellow sheep.
I was a churchgoer who wasn’t a church grower,
A prayer worrier who wasn’t a prayer warrior,
I heard the Word but seldom had the Word,
I had the Word at my fingertips but not my heart,
I had the head knowledge of faith, yet had no knowledge of the Head of my faith.
I claimed to be a friend of God but didn’t know how to be a friend to God.
I was a master of disguise, disguised as the Master’s.
I was a hell-bent soul, preaching a heaven-bound message,
I was a chest-thumping, bible-quoting, pew-warming, praise-quipping heathen.
I was a lie-lyricist, sin-stylist, hypocrisy-hypist believer,
I was a MATTHEW-condemning, MARK-timing, LUKE-warm, and a JOHN-doe Gospel Preacher,
Proclaiming the double-edged sword yet living a double-minded life.
Then one day…
I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”
Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
That’s when the LORD opened my heart and implanted His message,
He equipped me with His Word and then sent me to proclaim it,
I was excited to be His chosen ambassador, delighted to be a light to the world,
My first mission was the most important, for my first convert was the most lost,
God sent me to the mirror,
My first mission was to myself.
For the fame of His name,
