If I had my childhood to relive all over again,
I would build friendships first,
And learn to acquire the wealth last.
I would paint my fingers more,
And learn to point the finger less.
I would aim to do less correcting
And learn to do more connecting.
I would take my eyes off my watch,
And learn to watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less
And know to care more.
I would learn to take more hikes
And aim to fly more kites.
I would stop playing serious,
And learn how to seriously play.
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars,
I would learn to do less tugging.
And learn to do more hugging
I would learn to count less miles
And learn to amount more smiles
I will not care who the star was last night
And learn to look at the stars at night
I would be firm less often,
And learn to affirm much more.
I’d talk less about the love of power,
And learn more about the power of love.
Broken hearts and wounded knees
Cannot discourage my soul in this
I refuse to turn my back on basics
I have decided to go back to basics
